Overview

POSITION PURPOSE
The Associate Pastor of Family Ministry leads and shepherds the discipleship of children and families at MCA Church while serving as a key leader on the broader pastoral team.

This role exists to create environments where children encounter Jesus, parents are equipped to disciple their children, and volunteers are recruited, equipped, and empowered to grow as disciples through ministry opportunities.

The ideal candidate is a relational leader who naturally builds healthy teams, develops volunteers, and creates ministry environments where people love to serve together.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Family Ministries Leadership (~45%)
– Provide overall leadership for ministries serving children and families (Nursery–Grade 5)
– Lead, equip, and support ministry teams (rather than carrying responsibilities personally)
– Supervise and direct the Family Ministries Assistant & Nursery / Preschool Coordinator who provides operational and administrative support
– Develop & oversee discipleship environments where kids encounter Jesus & grow in faith
– Equip and encourage parents to disciple their children at home
– Lead and oversee Kids Club (Grades 4–5), a monthly ministry program
– Provide primary leadership to Kids Day Camp and related summer ministry initiatives
– Oversee Play & Connect (drop-in outreach for parents and preschoolers)
– Lead occasional events and gatherings that encourage connection, discipleship, and outreach among children and families
– Support occasional initiatives that strengthen marriages and family discipleship

Volunteer Recruitment, Team Building & Equipping (~20%)
– Recruit, train, mentor, and empower volunteer leaders
– Build healthy and sustainable ministry teams
– Foster a positive ministry culture where volunteers are valued, supported, and spiritually encouraged
– Identify, develop, and release emerging volunteer leaders within family ministries and develop leaders who can increasingly take ownership in ministry areas

Pastoral Ministry & Church Leadership (~20%)
– Serve as a member of the broader core pastoral team
– Participate in staff meetings, ministry planning, retreats, and church-wide initiatives
– Provide pastoral care to families and members of the congregation
– Contribute to the overall discipleship culture of MCA church
– Preach occasionally as gifted, interested, and available
– Supervise and support the Family Ministries Assistant & Nursery / Preschool Coordinator

Leadership, Systems & Administration (~15%)
– Ensure adherence to MCA safety and risk-management policies
– Oversee volunteer onboarding, screening, training, and scheduling
– Ensure healthy systems and organization within family ministries
– Collaborate with the Youth Pastor to ensure discipleship continuity between ministries

– Brings warmth, hospitality, encouragement, and positive leadership to ministry teams

QUALIFICATIONS
– Experience working with children, families, and volunteers
– Experience recruiting, leading, and developing volunteer teams
– Strong communication, organizational, and pastoral skills
– Theological training, ministry experience, or active pursuit of pastoral development
– Licensed with the Christian & Missionary Alliance in Canada, or willing to pursue licensing and credentialing with the C&MA (MCA Church can provide the pathway and support)
– Alignment with the statement of faith of the Christian & Missionary Alliance of Canada and the mission and values of MCA Church
– A clean criminal record check

JOB & COMPENSATION DETAILS
– Full-Time (40 hours/week)
– $62,000–$72,000 annually based on experience, education, and qualifications
– Alliance Retirement Fund Benefit (5% employer match)
