Location: Westside King’s Church, Calgary, Alberta
Position Summary
The Next Gen Assistant supports the Kids and Youth Ministries throughout the summer by helping prepare, lead, and facilitate programs that serve children, preteens, and teens. This role involves hands-on leadership with young people, behind-the-scenes preparation, and teamwork with staff and volunteers to ensure smooth and welcoming ministry environments. The ideal candidate enjoys working with kids and youth, is organized, flexible, and willing to jump in wherever needed.
Key Responsibilities
Youth and 456 Ministries Support
- Assist with Sundays in the House youth gatherings (set-up, engagement, logistics).
- Help plan and lead Wednesday summer programming (games, small groups, activities, outings).
- Support fall youth ministry launch by helping prepare spaces, supplies, and resources.
Kids Ministry Support
- Assist with Summer Camp preparation: organizing materials, prepping supplies, assisting with registration, and helping shape daily programming.
- Help lead Summer Camp groups and activities alongside staff and volunteers.
- Serve in Kids Ministry on Sundays (classroom support, leading small groups, helping with crafts/activities).
- Prepare curriculum materials, activity bins, crafts, and resource kits.
- Support fall Kids Ministry set-up (classroom organization, signage, resource prep).
General Ministry Support
- Assist with administrative tasks such as photocopying, sorting supplies, organizing storage, and updating records.
- Help create a welcoming and safe environment for families and volunteers.
- Participate in staff meetings, planning sessions, and training opportunities.
- Provide support for special Next Gen events and church-wide gatherings as needed.
- Other reasonable duties as assigned that support Kids and Youth Ministry.
Qualifications
- Must meet eligibility requirements for the Canada Summer Jobs Program.
- Enjoys working with children and youth.
- Strong communication and teamwork skills.
- Organized, dependable, and able to follow through on tasks.
- Willing to learn and take initiative.
- Ability to maintain a positive and welcoming presence in ministry spaces.
- Previous experience with children or youth is an asset but not required.
Work Environment
This role involves both active hands-on leadership with young people and practical behind-the-scenes preparation work. The position may require bending, lifting, standing for periods of time, and assisting with room set-ups.
