About the Opportunity
The Western District of The Alliance Canada is looking for one or more accounting students to support our Finance team with accounting administration, transaction review, data entry, and related accounting tasks.
This is a part-time student role. It is not intended to be a CPA-track position; however, it will provide practical exposure to accounting work in a nonprofit environment.
Depending on student availability and fit, we may hire more than one student.
Hours: Flexible, approximately 4 to 20 hours per week, scheduled between Tuesday and Thursday depending on student availability
Start Date: As soon as possible
Compensation: Negotiable
Key Responsibilities
The successful candidate may assist with:
· Staff expense data entry, review, and submission support
· Bank reconciliations and supporting documentation
· Preparing and issuing invoices to member churches
· Supporting accounts receivable and payment follow-up
· Communicating with churches regarding payments received or payable
· Organizing accounting support documents
· Reviewing accounting information for completeness and consistency
· Other ad hoc accounting and finance tasks as assigned
Qualifications
We are looking for students who have completed or are currently completing accounting coursework such as:
· Intermediate and/or Advanced Financial Accounting
· Managerial Accounting
· Accounting Theory
· Not-for-Profit Accounting / Fund Accounting, if available
· Auditing / Assurance
· Accounting Information Systems
· Taxation
The strongest fit would be a student who has already taken Intermediate Financial Accounting and has a solid understanding of assets, liabilities, revenue, and expenses under ASPE, with some familiarity or interest in ASNPO.
Prior bookkeeping experience is not required. Candidates must demonstrate strong accounting knowledge, attention to detail, and the ability to follow structured processes.
