Overview

First Lutheran Church (FLC) is an uplifting, connecting, inviting and dynamic congregation who seek to make life-giving connections for people. In order to provide for the faith formation of the children who are attending, we are looking for an energetic, faith-focused Christian who enjoys working with children to coordinate the activities for our children’s Sunday Morning learning experience.

 

Children’s Ministry (FLiCker) Overview

During the school year, families begin worship together. After some opening songs, the children are invited forward for a Children’s Message. This includes the reading of a Bible story from a Bible Story Book, some conversation about its meaning and relevance, a prayer, and a song. At the end of the song, the children are dismissed to our FLiCker program which takes place in a classroom and gym outside of the worship space. During this time, the Bible story and message is reinforced by additional conversation, videos, craft activities and games. Sometimes, there are ongoing craft projects to create visuals for the worship space or to prepare for dramas to be presented in worship. The number of children (ages 4-12) can vary from 3-4 to 12-15. The FLiCker program lasts for about 30-40 minutes.

 

Position Summary:

• Role: Children’s Ministry Coordinator
• Hours: 3-5 hours/week; $22-25/hour

Current Children’s Programs:

• Children’s Message (during worship):
  Engage kids with a Bible story, prayer, and song
  Simple, warm, and engaging format
• FLiCker! (Grades 1–6):
  Learning time during adult portion of worship
  Includes video, discussion, activities, and prayer
  Children return during the Song of the Day

Primary Responsibilities

·        Curriculum Planning – In consultation with the pastor, provide lesson plans and activities which illuminate the identified Scripture passage or story for the children.

·        Volunteer Coordination – Ideally, volunteers will lead the Children’s Message and then the FLiCker activities. The Children’s Ministry Coordinator would make sure there are volunteers and step in when necessary.

·        FLiCker! Set up/preparation – prepare all necessary equipment and supplies so that volunteers have what they need to conduct the learning time.

·        Sunday Morning presence – Arrive early on Sunday mornings to set up, greet families, and support the volunteers.

Children’s Dramas: Work with the pastor to plan skits and dramas to be presented to the congregation (including scripts, rehearsals, and props).
Other Expectations:

• Maintain a safe, welcoming environment (current police background check required).
• Attend weekly staff meetings when possible.
• Participate in the improvement of our children’s ministry to provide an effective and exciting learning experience for the children, the families and the congregation.
