Role Overview

Position Title: Children and Youth Pastor

Status: Full-time

Character & Spiritual Qualifications

This role is a vital ministry position that requires a lifestyle consistent with the values of First Love Church.

• An obvious gift and calling to minister to children and youth.
• A strong spiritual role model for children and youth.  A personal relationship with Jesus with evident dependence upon the Holy Spirit, and a commitment to living out Christian values is crucial to effectively leading and guiding the young members of the church.
• Demonstrate qualities of a team player and a capacity to work well with others.
• Demonstrate exceptional integrity and discretion as the primary steward of personal data, ensuring that all background checks and volunteer information are handled with the utmost security and pastoral care.
• A desire and proven ability to raise up leaders and build community.

Key Responsibilities

1. Oversee Children and Youth Ministry

• Ministry Oversight: Oversee all children and youth ministry on Sunday mornings.  Coordinate weekday or weekend events such as summer camps for children, and regular, ongoing events for youth.  Contribute special programs for Christmas or Easter.
• Program Development: Create engaging, age-appropriate programs and provide a yearly development plan (September to September) covering both children and youth cohorts.
• Youth Discipleship & Mentoring: Actively mentor, disciple, and help youth to know Jesus deeply and walk in the power of the Holy Spirit.  Guide them in building a lasting, personal faith as they transition into young adulthood.
• Family Engagement: Involve parents in the ministry, providing feedback on their children’s progress and creating opportunities for them to participate in larger events.
• Collaboration: Participate in weekly staff meetings, creative planning for special events, and the broader life of the First Love Church community.
• Curriculum & Discipleship: Select and prepare curriculum that effectively communicates the Gospel and provides a clear path of growing kids and youth in their knowledge and love for Jesus.

2. Train and Support Volunteers

As the Children and Youth Pastor you recruit, supervise, and equip a team of volunteers. You provide resources and training to help them grow in their spiritual development and ministry skills.

• Safety & Administration: Administrate the Plan to Protect program, including facilitating training and overseeing police and reference checks.
• Volunteer Management: Utilize Planning Center for scheduling and volunteer communication.

Qualifications

Required Skills or Qualities

• Excellent communication skills – written and oral.  Effectively convey information, share the gospel, manage conflict, and address any concerns with clarity and sensitivity.
• A gifted relational leader with the ability to build immediate rapport with kids, teens, and parents, fostering an environment of belonging and safety for everyone who walks through our doors.
• Bring creativity and innovation to ministry work. The ability to incorporate fresh ideas and adapt to evolving needs.
• An aptitude for using technology.
• Self-motivated & excellent work ethic.

Other Requirements

• Police Check: Must provide a clear Police Information Check with Vulnerable Sector Screening (VSS) as a condition of employment.

Assets

• An education related degree or certificate.
• Bachelor of Biblical Studies or equivalent.
• Experience working with children, teenagers, or youth groups is an asset.
