Business Banking Advisor Trainee – Full-time, Permanent

We have a new opportunity for a Business Banking Advisor Trainee. The Business Banking Advisor Trainee is a member of the Business Banking team and plays a key role in the delivery of exceptional personalized service grounded in biblical financial principles to our business member owners.
The role is a developmental role focused on acquiring the knowledge and skills necessary to transition to a Business Banking Advisor I position within 12-18 months. A specific developmental plan will be determined based on the qualifications and experience of the successful incumbent and will include defined periods working under various leaders and teams to acquire the foundational knowledge and skills necessary to understand all aspects of Business Banking products, services and processes.
Under direct supervision, this position is responsible to support the delivery of business products and services including deposit accounts, merchant services, investments, and basic business credit products including credit cards and Business Pay (CAFT). The position also supports the Business Banking team in the completion of annual credit reviews and analysis/underwriting support for more complex credit applications. Participation in business development activities is an expectation of the role.
What are some key responsibilities?
- Acquires foundational knowledge and understanding of commercial loans, deposit and investment products, services and processes along with relevant policies, programs, and legislation and applying this knowledge to tasks and responsibilities.
- Acquires a working knowledge of all policies, procedures, processes, and software applications required to deliver business banking products and services to members and potential members.
- Analyzes financial information and assesses credit risk. Capable of handling basic credit needs and credit structures. Conducts appropriate credit investigations, security inspections and searches as required to meet underwriting policy guidelines.
- Supports other members of the Business Banking team and the Credit Adjudicator in conducting financial analysis and underwriting support for annual credit reviews and credit applications.
- Assists in monitoring deposit, loan and investment renewal/retention reports and conducts follow up activities as directed to strengthen member relationships, retain existing business, and identify opportunities to promote, up-sell and cross-sell Credit union products and services.
- Interviews members and prospective members to identify financial needs; collects and compiles information relating to member requests and accurately completes all applicable forms, applications and other tasks as assigned to fulfill the member request.
- Assists in follow up on delinquent accounts as directed by direct leader and refers unresolved situations to Business Manager for further action.
What skills and attributes does a Business Banking Advisor Trainee demonstrate?
- Bachelor’s Degree with preference given to Commerce or related business field.
- 1 – 3 years of banking experience with sales and lending experience is considered an asset.
- Completion of Introduction to Financial Statements or equivalent practical experience.
- Solutions orientated with strong attention to detail, strong analytical skills and critical thinking.
- Self managed and able to escalate with recommendations and seek direction for workload constraints in a timely manner.
The Compensation
The salary range for this trainee role will be $54,900.00 – $68,642.00 per annum with salary determined by the relevant proficiency level of the successful incumbent.
