Overview: The Seminary Academic Writing Peer Tutor provides academic writing support (English) for seminary students.

Position Summary
Peer tutors working for Student Academic Success will help other students develop their academic writing skills. Academic writing tutors can come from any program and must demonstrate excellent writing, research, and communication skills. To be eligible to serve as a peer tutor, a candidate must have completed at least 18 credits of post-secondary study and have a strong overall grade point average. Peer tutors will report to the Learning Services Coordinator.
Duties and Responsibilities
The peer tutor will:
- attend tutor training and participate in tutor meetings, as scheduled by the Learning Services Coordinator
- assist students [In-person or Online] via one-to-one tutoring sessions (drop-in and/or scheduled)
- tutors will set their availability at the beginning of each semester, in consultation with the Learning Services Coordinator (the number of hours worked is dependent on student demand)
- track student usage and satisfaction with the services provided by Student Academic Success
- prepare for tutoring sessions, as needed
- participate in the promotion of Student Academic Success services, including engagement with relevant faculty for in-class advertising or campus wide initiatives
- engage in self-assessment and professional development, particularly in tutoring pedagogy
Duties and responsibilities performed within one’s capabilities that do not constitute a major change may be added, deleted, or changed at any time at the discretion of the supervisor either orally or in writing.
Job Standards and Requirements
To be eligible for this position, a candidate must:
- be a current student at Ambrose University
- have completed at least 18 credits of seminary study, including at least one term at Ambrose.
- have a strong cumulative grade point average, a minimum 2.7 on a four-point scale, with an overall grade point average of 3.0 or higher being strongly preferred
- provide references from an Ambrose faculty member in a relevant discipline (post-interview)
- accept the responsibilities of community members as stated in Ambrose’s Community Standards http://(https://ambrose.edu/community-standards)
Any teaching or tutoring experience will be considered an asset.
