Overview: We are prayerfully seeking a lead pastor for our next season who is called to live deeply in community – providing spiritual care, building relationships, and mobilizing people into deeper faith and missional engagement.
Start Date: Nov 1st, but flexible
Who we are:
Our church body consists of fifteen committed adult members, five kids, and a leadership team of three. The Cairn is associated with the Aspen Network, a group of like-minded churches spanning from Calgary to Canmore, and a member of the Canadian National Baptist Convention (CNBC).
The Cairn has one employee, a lead pastor, who performs a litany of day-to-day tasks, a combination of pastoral care, strategic visioning, and administration. Our current lead pastor is stepping away from The Cairn to further his education and continue his ministry in a different region of Canada.

What You’ll Do:
- Provide pastoral care and support.
- Preach 2-3 times per month and oversee preaching series and guests.
- Lead and develop volunteers.
- Cultivate pathways for spiritual formation and community engagement
General Breakdown of Responsibilities
- Shepherding and Care – meeting with members for care, offering counseling and presence in times of need, and developing pathways for growth and help.
- Preaching and teaching – preparing for and preaching on Sundays, developing sermon series at The Cairn and within the network, working with and developing others who are preaching at The Cairn.
- Strategic planning and development – working with the lead team to develop annual priorities and tactics to reach goals, fostering local and network relationships for broader kingdom participation, and collaborating with Sojourn group, and missional engagement leaders on their specific areas of service.
- Community Engagement – participating in the community at-large in faithful presence through a variety of pathways.
Administrative – conducting budget updates and reimbursements, weekly email and liturgy work, communication across the community, and opening and closing down the church space each Sunday.
Who You Are:
- Possesses the qualifications in 1 Timothy 3:1-7 and Titus 1:5-9.
- Previous experience in a pastoral role that includes teaching, preaching, and leadership is preferred.
- Graduate from a recognized seminary or equivalent training and experience.
- Strong leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.
- Builds strong healthy relationships with the church community.

Hours and Compensation:
Salary: $40,000 – 56,000 starting with 3 weeks vacation
Hours: minimum 20 hours per week commitment and must live locally
Notes: Salary and hours are flexible/dependent on experience, bi-vocational roles, and external funding.
