Overview
The Community Engagement Coordinator (CEC) is part of the fast-paced program team at Mennonite Central Committee Alberta (MCCA). The incumbent will work cross-functionally and in collaboration with the entire staff team to engage the Mennonite and Anabaptist constituency within Alberta, as well as the wider Christian community and other organizations, partners, and secular groups that align with MCC’s values in the work of relief, development, and peace in the name of Christ. The CEC is responsible for promoting MCC’s commitment to peacebuilding through the organization of youth and young adult engagements, planned events, public speaking, learning resource development, and interaction with the constituency and the greater community. Due to the relational aspect of the position, we are looking for an individual who can fulfill a minimum 2-year commitment

* An undergraduate degree in a related field (e.g., marketing, international development, ministry) or equivalent work experience/training.
* A minimum of 3 years’ work experience in relationship building, discipleship, community engagement, or event planning and execution.
* Ability to engage others in exploring local, national, and international issues related to poverty, justice, and peacebuilding.
* A passion for providing youth and young adults with experiences that will broaden their worldview.
* Demonstrated ability to work with people from diverse experiences and cultural backgrounds.
* Interest in advocacy as a tool for peacebuilding.
* Ability to be flexible, work with interruptions, shift priorities of work as required, and be available for occasional weekend and evening work.
* Self-motivated and committed to teamwork and collaboration with staff and volunteers.
* Strong public speaking and presentation skills.
* Solid communication skills, both verbal and written.
* Strong organizational skills and ability to multitask smoothly.
* Relevant experience in recruiting, leading, and training volunteer teams.
* Experience using and managing social media accounts to market and promote volunteer recruitment and the Materials Resources programs.
* Respect for and discretion in dealing with confidential material required.
* Fundraising and grant writing skills would also be considered an asset.
* Ability to travel and possess a valid driver’s license.
Key Responsibilities
* Effectively communicate MCC mission and values to staff, volunteers, donors, and the wider community in a positive way.
* Facilitate the creation of cross-functional program activities by working with team representatives to design, plan, and implement community engagement initiatives that support MCC’s strategic goals and objectives.
* Provide oversight to MCCA warehouse (Material Resources).
* Coordinate youth and young adult events, office visits, kit arrangements, and programs that address peace and justice issues.
* Write grants when needed.
* Recruit participants through MCC network and beyond.
* Coordinate connections with Alberta schools, colleges/universities, and church youth groups in cooperation with Church Engagement.
* Develop a volunteer recruitment strategy and keep database up to date.
* Coordinate the Material Resources and office’s volunteer force.
* Communicate between volunteers and staff to keep team interconnected and consistent.
* Develop and implement formal and informal volunteer recognition and appreciation initiatives.
* Coordinate kit blessings as needed.
* Maintain regular communication with other MCC Material Resources Coordinators and attend the national MCC Material Resources Roundtable meetings.
* Connect and develop relationships with local and national partner organizations.
* Promote peace awareness in the Alberta constituency in Mennonite churches and emerging constituencies.
* Collaborate with the International Programs team to promote assigned international programs activities, including Seek and SALT programs, within Alberta.
* Attend MCCA events after normal work hours when required.
* Lead bi-national campaigns in MCC Canada and the US, such as the ongoing Climate Change Campaign in Alberta and upcoming initiatives.
* Represent MCCA at the Canadian Advocacy (CAN) and Material Resources Networks.
* Provide support to the In Tune annual conference organizer.
* Participate in MCCA orientations, staff meetings, In Tune Conference, and Staff Annual Retreat.
* Model nonviolent peacemaking through respectful daily interactions with staff and the public.
* Perform other job-related duties as assigned
Salary Details
Base salary: $66,333
