Overview
As a Disabilities Life Skills Support Worker, you will help young adults develop essential life skills, supporting them in achieving the personal goals outlined in their customized Individual Life Goals Plan within our program.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
· Provide participants with a safe and nurturing environment for learning
· Facilitate participants with all the necessary tasks in small and large groups.
· Assist in implementing, tracking, and documenting individual life goals plan for each participant
· Support young adults in building independence and developing life skills
· Supports participants in utilizing AAC (Alternative and Augmentative Communication) devices
· Assist participants during recreational outings, volunteer opportunities, and community activities
· Help connect participants with local resources and opportunities
· Encourage and guide individuals as they explore their interests and social connections
· Manage crises effectively and document resolution and action taken
· Capable of working responsibly with highly confidential information
· Competence in writing incident reports
· Transport participants as needed
SKILLS AND COMPETENCIES
· Belief in the abilities of young adults with developmental disabilities and confidence in working with them
· Demonstrate the ability to support diverse learning needs, facilitate and assist with lesson delivery
· Knowledge of high-intensity behavioral support is a must
· Provide group and one on one support to individuals in community and recreation outings
· Demonstrate the ability to support diverse learning needs, facilitate and assist with lesson delivery
· Professional, polite, and charismatic demeanor
· Excellent interpersonal skills
· Strong work ethic and ability to multitask
· Excellent team player with a can-do attitude
· Ability to get along with others in a fast-paced environment
· Must be able to climb, bend, stoop, push, lift, pull, reach, sit and walk for periods
· Must be able to project a professional image while interfacing with the community
· Demonstrates ability to work independently as well as part of a team
QUALIFICATIONS
· College Degree or Diploma/Certificate in related field of study or combination of experience
· Three years of relevant experience
· Non- Violent Crisis Intervention Certificate/ First Aid CPR
· Experience working with young adults and/or children moderate to severe developmental disabilities
· Experience as an educational assistant in a school setting is an asset
CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT
· Applicants offered employment must complete and pass a ‘police security clearance’ and a ‘vulnerable sector check’
· Valid Driver’s License
· Willingness to obtain and employers expense a Class 4 Driver’s License
· Proof of educational requirements
