Overview

Bow Valley Christian Church (in Northwest Calgary) continues to grow and we are looking to hire a Community Life Pastor to join our pastoral team.  Reporting to the Executive Director, this part-time position (approximately 25-30 hours per week) could evolve into full-time employment.

Role Description

The Community Life Pastor is tasked with moving forward the mission of BVCC by serving as our primary leader for all ministries related to church community life.  This will be primarily evidenced by developing strategies, leadership, and programs that will engage the church in their responsibility to grow in Christ-likeness and true community – expanding opportunities to belong, grow, invest, and shine as followers of Jesus both individually and as a BVCC community member.

Primary Tasks

  • General leadership of BVCC Community Groups, Men’s / Women’s / Senior’s ministries
    • Oversee all Community Group initiatives and programs including Men’s / Women’s / Senior’s ministries
    • Develop and communicate vision and direction in alignment with the BVCC mission
    • Evaluate and make available Bible-based curriculum for each ministry area, encouraging the ongoing development of each group within the ministry portfolio
    • Stay current with trends in culture and ministry best practices as they relate to each area
    • Ensure effective and regular communication with group and ministry leaders, key volunteers
    • Provide pastoral care to ministry leaders and key volunteers within the ministry areas
    • Develop and manage the departmental budget
    • Ensure proper recruitment, screening, orientation, and training of all group and volunteer leaders
    • Other tasks as assigned by the Executive Director or Lead Pastor

Leadership Development

  • Identify, build, and train a team of group and ministry leaders who are able to accomplish the objectives of BVCC Community Groups and Men’s / Women’s / Senior’s ministries (INVEST)
  • Provide opportunities for group and ministry leaders to develop their leadership skills (GROW)
  • Intentional mentorship and encouragement of group and ministry leaders

Events

  • Provide oversight, direction, and organization for BVCC events – including both regular attenders and visitors / new attendees (SHINE)
  • Organize and oversee group and ministry leader encouragement gatherings (BELONG)

Administration

  • Managing calendar, email and phone correspondence, other administrative functions
  • Expense and revenue management, timely submission of related reports and forms

Success Measures and Metrics

  • Year over year increases in:
    • number of community groups
    • percentage participation of men and women in community groups
    • instances of mentoring relationships for men and women
  • Regular occurrences of successful events for both regular and new / visiting attendees
  • Positive feedback from men and women about their sense of belonging and growth
  • Evidence of men and women actively and shining in the church and community

Work Schedule

This is a part-time position that could lead into full-time employment.  This role requires regular presence in the church office during business hours and weekend work will be necessary to support Sunday services and other church events.  The schedule will include weekday and weekend hours, with specific arrangements to be determined with the supervisor to ensure appropriate coverage while maintaining a healthy work-life balance.
